Avenida Mesa y Lopez in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has now been closed for the paving and installation works of the MetroGuagua infrastructure in the section between Plaza de España and the Naval Base.
These works will address new paving and exclusive lanes for the new BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system, in addition to the renovation of street furniture to improve accessibility in the area. With the completion of the project, Avenida Mesa y Lopez will become a boulevard with less noise and more pedestrian space.
It is also reported that during this phase of the work, access to private garages will not be affected and the circulation of taxis will be maintained. The stop of line 17 for the Municipal Buses will be moved temporarily to Calle Nestor de la Torre.
The opening of this current work will happen before the important commercial event known as ‘Black Friday’ on 23 November, and during the Christmas season, heavy machinery will not be used that could generate excessive noise in the open commercial area.
