The Government of Tenerife is going to request Aena to suspend the open bidding process to expand the current terminal of Tenerife South Airport in order to open a negotiation process that culminates with the construction of a new one.
Carlos Alonso, President of the Government of Tenerife, told journalists that he had secured agreement between representatives of the business and tourist sectors, trade unions and tourist board officials that aims for the project to have the greatest political and social consensus.
The Tenerife President pointed out that the island has a firm and close position to defend the future of the airport, which is more than forty years old, is obsolete and presents structural deficits, which cannot be fixed with “a fix.”
