Fernando Olmeda is 82 years of age, originally comes from Madrid, but now lives in Lanzarote. However, Fernando is also the longest-serving Red Cross volunteer on the island.
For the last 20 years, he had been working for the Red Cross, and most of his work has involved helping migrants that have arrived by boat from Africa.
Fernando has also travelled throughout the Canary Islands for the Red Cross, which awarded him a bronze medal to thank him for all his unconditional work. In response to this award, Fernando said “My work with the Red Cross has given me many positive experiences in my life, but also some experiences that have been very hard for me.”
Fernando has also been committed to helping those in most need, and has previously worked for the Red Cross along the Camino de Santiago in the north of Spain and in Colombia.
