Businesses, residents and tourists have joined together in Corralejo in Fuerteventura to protest against the introduction of a master plan that limits the numbers of visitors able to take the ferry to the island of Lobos from the port.
The slogan read ‘Todos con Lobos y Lobos para Todos’ or Everyone for Lobos and Lobos for Everyone.
The implementation of this master plan that was approved in 2006 now limits the numbers of visitors to the island of Lobos to two shifts, and requires tourists, residents and workers to request a daily permit and also prohibits overnight stays on the island.
It is reported that after a week of application, visits have fallen to around half those expected at this time of the year, and residents of Corralejo continue to feel uncertainty about the future of their traditional homes on Isla Lobos.
