The new Unit of Active Rehabilitation of Mental Health of the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) has just been opened. The new building has two hundred and twenty-five square metres for therapeutic workshops and multi-purpose rooms for the care of patients and family members. Another sixty square metres are for storage facilities.
This project has cost 531,934 euros and has also allowed improvements to adjoining areas of the building. A new containment wall has been erected and spaces have been created to develop outdoor therapeutic and leisure activities.
80% of patients admitted to the Mental Health Area will benefit from activities, such as the urban garden, gymnastics and psychomotricity, sensory stimulation and art therapy.
Until now, workshops were carried out in prefabricated modules that partially met the needs of patients and staff.
