32 people have been arrested for defrauding social security funds of more than €1,000,000 euros in Gran Canaria. Those arrested are accused of forging documents, as well as illegally taking money from public funds.
It is alleged that the accused took advantage of unemployment funds, whilst working for companies that did not require their services.
It is reported that the companies involved employed more workers than they needed in order to claim employment subsidies. The companies also allegedly failed to pay into the Spanish Social Security system for workers that they claimed had been hired.
