Last year during the fiesta of the Bajada de la Virgen, which occurs only every four years, a local civil protection group was formed. Since that time, this group committed to responding to any emergency situation and has added resources to support this response. There is now another base of operations in La Frontera.
The Civil Protection of El Hierro now has 42 volunteers who provide support to other team in situations of prevention and emergency situations across the island. This project of local residents also has some of the youngest volunteers on the island ready to respond to any emergency.
