This week, the Royal House of Spain confirmed that King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will not be able to attend the 525thanniversary of Santa Cruz de La Palma on 3 May.
Santa Cruz de La Palma has prepared a broad but simple programme of events on the occasion of the anniversary of its founding on 3 May 1493.
The Mayor’s office had issued a number of formal invitations for this important anniversary event, and reports disappointment that the King and Queen of Spain will not be able to be present due to calendar problems.
Twenty-five years ago, the previous King and Queen attended the 500thanniversary celebrations, and it was hoped that the present King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia would have been able to join in these 2018 celebrations.
