A 43-year-old foreigner was arrested this week by Guardia Civil officers in Yaiza in Lanzarote for the alleged crime of fraud called the ‘scam of the tablet’.
Two elderly French tourists reported to the police that they were victims of this fraud when they purchased two tablets at an electronics store after paying 60 euros, but were told by the alleged criminal that he could not give them the devices as they needed to be charged and updated, and they should return later that evening, but without giving them any proof of purchase.
When they returned, the shop owner asked for their credit cards to finish installing the operating system and asked for their PIN numbers. Afterwards, the French couple found their current accounts had been charged with 1438 euros and 1679 euros.
