The Government of Lanzarote announced this week that it will commission a study to explore possible locations to build a new airport. The objective is that the new airport infrastructure should not be limited by the physical geography of the island, and should not inconvenience residents of the island.
The Government of Lanzarote reported that the transfer of the airport to another location on the island would recover an important space of land from the existing airport for the construction of educational, health and sports centres.
This study will also explore the environmental impacts of locating the new airport further inland or closer to the coastline.
