Policia Nacional report this week that over the last four months, officers have arrested seven women and one man attempting to smuggle drugs into the new prison located in Juan Grande in Gran Canaria. Four of these alleged drugs smugglers are reported to have previous police records for various criminal activities.
These arrests represent the success of the police operation called ‘Vis’ that have successfully identified those visiting prisoners at the prison known as Las Palmas II. Police report that the detainees had intended to pass these drugs to their imprisoned relatives and friends by taking advantage of prison visits.
The agents of Policia Nacional had remained hidden in parts of this prison to identify those who could be smuggling drugs for prisoners, and in security searchers, they found a total of 600 grams of hashish, 45 grams of heroin and 110 doses of anxiolytics or psychoactive compounds.
