The Volcan de Teneguia finally arrived this week at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, when its journey from Cadiz in southern Spain to Tenerife was interrupted by a serious fire that spread through the engine room, when it had been around 150 kilometres from Gran Canaria.
The ship’s crew finally managed to put out the fire, which resulted in no health and safety dangers to the crew and in no material damage to the ship. However, the Volcan de Teneguia was unable to continue its journey to Tenerife.
Eventually, the ship was towed by the Miguel de Cervantes tug boat to the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for unloading its cargo and for repair work to be undertaken to its engine room. When it arrived at the port, two pilots directed it towards the Virgen del Pino dock to complete its journey.
