Decrease in Drink Driving in Fuerteventura

Decrease in Drink Driving in Fuerteventura

During the summer months, the Guardia Civil implements greater checks on drivers to discourage drivers from taking alcohol and drugs in Fuerteventura, which has been seen to increase during summer festivals.

This week it was reported that the Windsurfing and Kiteboarding Championships held in Fuerteventura, interventions by Guardia Civil officers with drivers attending this event revealed thirty positive tests for alcohol and for drugs.

During this campaign, which lasted all night and part of the following morning, officers of the Guardia Civil stopped practically all vehicles that passed La Lajita. The main objective was to perform alcohol and drug testing.

The final result showed many more negative than positive, and this average also shows a decrease in drink driving, and a change in the behaviour of drivers.

Therefore, during this drink and drug driving campaign, over 400 tests were carried out, but only thirty tests were shown to be positive for alcohol or drugs. These figures are reported to show that there has been a change of attitude towards drinking and driving in Fuerteventura. However, the Guardia Civil want to see no drivers of vehicles testing positive for alcohol or for drugs.
