The Guardia Civil reported this week that a 75-year-old man living in Lanzarote is accused of sexual abuse of children after approaching them on public transport in Gran Canaria, but this type of abuse could have taken place on other islands.
A complaint made last June in the Municipality of Arucas in Gran Canaria led to an investigation and arrest of the man identified as J.A.C.B. confirmed by the Guardia Civil. This statement explained that this elderly man used public transport to target victims, preferably young or underage males who travelled alone, sitting by the side or waiting to them to arrive at his destination to subject them to touching.
It is reported that after analysis of police records of the accused, it was shown that in 2014 he was arrested for similar criminal acts carried out on the island of Fuerteventura. It is also said that he made innumerable trips between different Canary Islands, except Fuerteventura, and made most trips by public transport.
Therefore, the Guardia Civil is keeping open this investigation with the purpose of locating other victims of the accused, and encourages residents to collaborate with this investigation to bring to their attention any similar abuse that has not yet been reported.
