Oxygen Bottles Not Cause of Tenerife Hospital Fire

Oxygen Bottles Not Cause of Tenerife Hospital Fire

This week, firefighters have continued to investigate the cause of the fire that occurred in the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria (UNSC) just over a week ago, and have released new research data that rules out the hypothesis that oxygen bottles were the origin of the fire.

These new findings concluded that the alleged arsonist now arrested by police used bed linen in the paediatric emergency department to start the fire, but point out that the presence of oxygen stored in this hospital unit could have encouraged the fire to spread so rapidly.

The repair work of the affected areas of the hospital will cost around one million euros. Some work has already begun and the Canary Islands Health Service has declared this incident as an emergency.
