The Government of Gran Canaria wants to preserve the purity of the Canarian black bee. The queen black bee is unique in her species throughout the world, and a group of beekeepers has been selected to ensure that the black bee will reign again.
The Canarian black bee is the ideal variety for the production of honey on these islands, and this new programme promoted by the Government of Gran Canaria aims to preserve the black bee, and to ensure that in a few years it will become the predominant species.
This native bee of the Canary Islands has very specific characteristics that make it highly productive, and so gentle that it is unlikely to attack others.
