Over 400 goats and sheep are currently living wild in the Rural Park of Anaga and Teno in Tenerife.
It is difficult to locate these due to thick vegetation. They live freely in the Rural Park of Anago where around 240 have been counted, and the others live in the Rural Park of Teno. No one owns these goats and sheep, but they are putting at risk the unique environment where they are living.
To reverse this situation, the Government of Tenerife is carrying out a programme to relocate these animals to farms on the island, after spending a period of quarantine to ensure they do not transmit any disease. It is hoped this project will be completed by the end of the year.
