The Minister of Public Works, Pablo Rodriguez, has announced that the Corralejo and Morro Jable ring roads in Fuerteventura have been incorporated into the new highway agreement that is pending signatures.
Although initially these ring roads were not foreseen in the planning of the new road infrastructure, Pablo Rodriguez indicated that a study of alternatives has been commissioned for both these two circuits to connect the two ports without the need to cross population centres.
Mario Cabrera, councillor of Fuerteventura Government, also drew attention to the original framework of roads on the island that identified road sections of Caldereta to the Airport, and the Airport to Pozo Negro, but these have to avoid natural areas that are protected, which means that the new highway to the airport would been to be moved to the mountains, duplicating routes and occupying more ground.
With regard to the Caldereta to Airport section, Pablo Rodriguez explained that, after a year and a half of negotiations, he finally has an environmental impact statement, so the Ministry now faces the supervision of the construction project.
