The Ecopark Gran Canaria Sur has been busy converting thousands of tons of vegetable waste and organic matter into compost. The intention of the Government of Gran Canaria is to distribute this compost free of charge to farmers and town halls across the island.
This seems to be good news! However, there is a problem, as the Government of Gran Canaria has now been waiting for nine months for a signature from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of the Canary Islands, so that it can be distributed!
So, until this bureaucratic process is resolved with an important signature, and probably several rubber stamps, this huge pile of compost cannot be distributed. There are already several municipalities and farmers across the island who have expressed interest in acquiring some of this neglected pile of composted vegetable waste and organic matter.
