Roberto Luis has just been released from prison after remaining there for 23 months, and was alleged to be the perpetrator of the death of a woman, who jumped out of a window in a property in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in October 2016.
The defence lawyer for Roberto Luis, Maria Luz Vera said that from the first moment she met her client, she believed in his innocence, and is now asking the court for compensation for her client for wrongful imprisonment. Roberto was summoned to court to hear the conclusions of the retrial of his supposed crime, and the jury declared him innocent.
An independent lawyer, Manuel Garcia de Mesa, said after this announcement that it is unlikely that Roberto will receive any compensation for the two years he has spent in prison, but he will not have a criminal record after being acquitted.
