This week the port of Vueltas de Valle Gran Rey in La Gomera received the first cruise ship of the new season, and the Island Sky cruise ship arrived with 98 passengers and 63 crew members.
This is the first stopover of the season for this town, and begins a planned calendar of cruise ships berthing in this port infrastructure, which joins the port of San Sebastian de La Gomera as another stopover point on the island.
For this first cruise ship arrival, the Government of La Gomera presented gifts with promotional material from the island, so that cruise ship passengers would receive information about the town and the island, which should encourage them to return in the future. In addition, the scale of this type of cruise ship should encourage these passengers to spend money in the local community, as the purchasing power of passengers of smaller cruise ships tends to be high, as they would have paid over 4,000 euros for their trip.
By the end of December 2018, La Gomera will have welcomed over 62,000 cruise ship passengers, and 13% more than last year. These forecasts indicate an increase in tourist activity and spending, reaching an average of 29 euros per passenger, with an overall income for the island of 1.7 million euros.
