Floor Collapse in Lanzarote Leaves One Dead and Two Injured

This week the floor of a house on the road between Arrecife and Tinajo in the Municipality of San Bartolome in Lanzarote suddenly collapsed and one woman fell through the floor into an empty water cistern.

The 112 emergency service was alerted at 13.50 with an alert that several people had fallen into an empty water storage space when the floor collapsed. Ambulances, fire officers, Civil Protection teams, Policia Local and Guardia Civil all attended this tragedy, and discovered one man with serious injuries and a woman unconscious.

After the fall, the woman went into cardiorespiratory arrest, and after being rescued by fire officers, ambulance staff performed basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures, but without success, and her death was later confirmed.

The injured man presented a cranial trauma and was taken to Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife. Also, two technicians supporting the ambulance service were also injured, and both were transferred to hospital. One of these responders suffered a fracture, but the other was released without serious injuries.
