Ana Maria Artiles and Antonio Quesada disappeared from their home in Guanarteme in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2012, and have not been seen since that time. Their bodies were discovered near Aguimes on 20 August 2017 and reported by News from the Canary Islands at that time. A former employee of a bank branch in Telde has now been arrested and is accused of their abduction and their subsequent death in a remote ravine on a slope between Temisas and Aguimes many kilometres from their home.
The accused is a middle-aged man, and it appears that he formerly worked as a bank employee in a branch where Ana Maria Artiles and Amntonio Quesada had an account, so this gruesome crime now indicates a motive of money.
The suspect lives in Telde, but now remains in police custody while officers of Policia Nacional continue to investigate this case. The family of the elderly couple have chosen not to make any statements to the media and wait to hear official reports from the police in due course. However, the family have always maintained that they and the couple’s neighbours thought that the perpetrator of the crime would be a close friend and someone whom Ana Maria and Antonio would have had confidence in.
