On Wednesday morning on a stretch of road at La Bodequilla in the municipality of San Mateo in Gran Canaria a serious rockfall onto the GC-153 forced the closure of this road, as reported by the Gran Canaria Government Highways Department.
Workers involved with the servicing of roads for the government department are now working to remove this massive rockfall that is currently blocking traffic access in the area, and then to assess the damage caused to the road surface, as well as to identify any other rock areas that could cause other rockfalls in this region.
This road is located at one of the highest regions of Gran Canaria, and those working to repair the damage caused and clear the road also have to face high risk weather conditions in the area that include very strong winds and the potential for rain later, but the Gran Canaria Government has also warned about a high likelihood of fog for those driving to clear this road.
