Regulating Holiday Rentals in the Canary Islands

According to a new decree prepared by the Government of the Canary Islands, island councils and town councils will play a decisive role in the regulation of holiday rentals.

Isaac Castellano, Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands met with the Canarian Federation of Municipalities following various meetings with different tourism agents.

Owners can now rent their entire property up to twice a year without being considered a vacation type. The same could happen for rooms, and owners can rent up to five room, as long as the owner lives in the same house.

Over recent months, the capital cities of the Canary Islands have been reported to charge some of the highest rents in Spain.
