Belen Allende, President of the Government of El Hierro has this week condemned the economic stinginess of the Government of Spain for refusing to replace the existing AFIS system used at the El Hierro Airport, because it is alleged to be restricting the growth of the island, and strangles the island’s air connectivity.
The President used an example of what happened this weekend, when the rainstorm forced several flights to be cancelled and left the island disconnected.
Bad weather, accumulation of cancellations and those few airplanes that could fly were forced to perform approach manoeuvres to the runway, but finally had to abort landing attempts and return to the airports of their origin.
Belen Allende denounced the economic stinginess of the Government of Spain in dragging down the growth of the island of El Hierro.
