The Government of La Gomera has now opened a debate on the state of the island and to report on the works being carried out and where priorities are given by the government team, to achieve social equity and sustainable development. The projects planned for this year were also presented following prioritisation of social issues, infrastructure and sustainable development.
Social policies and creation of employment are the main concerns of the administration that says it prioritises its resources to serve the citizens.
This report says that indicators reflect a good pace for the island moving forward. At the end of 2017, there were 32% fewer unemployed people, a consolidated economic growth. The island has a per capita income higher than the Canary Islands overall average, and between 2000 and 2014 the island has generated the greatest wealth among its population per capita with an increase of 63%.
