Squatters Evicted from Pre-Hispanic Caves in La Palma

Squatters Evicted from Pre-Hispanic Caves in La Palma

This week officers of the Guardia Civil and Policia Local in Tazacorte in La Palma evicted around 20 people who had been living in the pre-Hispanic Cuevas del Time, which are sited in an area of protected natural space.

Police report that illegal occupation of these caves has been a problem for several years, and in 2011, iron bars were installed at these caves to prevent illegal occupations, but at various periods, squatters managed to break these iron bars, and returned to living in these ancient and culturally important caves.

There is no information about whether these caves will again be fitted with security to prevent further squatting attempts.
