Getting Married in Fuerteventura for Illegal Immigration

Getting Married in Fuerteventura for Illegal Immigration

Officers of the Policia Nacional this week arrested a British citizen and two Spanish citizens in Fuerteventura who allegedly held three marriages of convenience, so that a couple with their children and another relative, all of these Cubans, could obtain legal residency in Spain.

The police report that all those detained for questioning have police records and are accused of a crime of promoting illegal immigration.

The couple who have children married the British citizen and one of the detainees, and the other relative, an aunt of the mother of the children with the third arrested. This third person was able to obtain a visa to travel to Spain, after which she married in Fuerteventura.

The investigation was initiated when several people had requested marriage permits and corresponding documentation for legal residence in Spain after having married local residents.
