A citizens’ initiative promoted by local historian Carmelo Torres is demanding that 75 properties within the old town area of Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura should be declared of cultural interest.
Carmelo Torres says the objective is to protect these historic buildings, as many of these were originally built during the times of the old Puerto Cabras.
This initiative will now be presented to the Government of Fuerteventura, although the final decision would be taken by the Government of the Canary Islands.
At present in Fuerteventura, only the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario is declared as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
