The acting magistrate of San Cristobal de La Laguna in Tenerife this week ordered the owner of a bar in the Quadrilatral area of La Laguna to be sent to prison without bail for reported alleged crimes of harassment and sexual abuse of around 20 women and young girls.
The court explained that victims of sexual abuse by the pub owner included many women and underage girls, and so the identities of these victims remain confidential for their protection and rights.
This case of sexual abuse was reported in a previous edition of News from the Canary Islands when young women were raising this sexual abuse on social media before police had intervened, and the pub owner had remained free.
The owner of the pub in La Laguna, a former soldier, was arrested this week by officers of the Policia Nacional following evidence given by around 20 victims, and he is alleged to have subjected them to sexual harassment or degrading treatment.
