A man and a woman were seriously injured this week after the car they were travelling in left the road and fell down the side of a mountain in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This tragic event took place during the afternoon on the Los Campitos road in the Tenerife capital, when the 112 Emergency Services attended after receiving the alert, as well as firefighters.
The Emergency Services had first to secure the car safely where it had fallen on the mountain side, and then cut open the roof of the car to release the passengers, so that they could be given medical care. A rescue helicopter had to descend to the scene of the accident. The wounded occupants of the car were then prepared before hoisting them up to the helicopter. The helicopter then transferred the injured people to port area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Once the helicopter landed at the dock, medical staff found that the man had severe injuries to his upper limbs, while the woman had severe head injuries and other injuries, and were then transferred by ambulance to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria.
The rescue of this accident also involved Policia Local officers, members of the Civil Protection and technicians at the port of Tenerife.
