The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria announced this week that existing parking meters in the blue and green areas of the city will be renewed with smart parking meters.
These new parking meters combine technological and design improvements, and the first of these smart meters will be installed in the Vegueta neighbourhood, where 93 are planned to be installed.
These are intended to replace the old parking meters, out of the total of 225 across all the city, which will soon incorporate a touch screen with 4G for smartphones, and payment with cash or credit card. These smart parking meters also work as a virtual information point to download any information, but the most novel feature is what is known as virtual balance.
The new machines, which work with solar panels, also integrate other existing systems, such as the LPA Mobility Card and the LPA Park System. It is planned that 170 of these new devices will be installed over the next 4 years.
