El Instituto Geografico Nacional (IGN) or the National Geographic Institute this week registered an underwater earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 to the north of El Hierro.
This seismic activity during the afternoon at a depth of 26 kilometres, but was the fifth underwater earthquake recorded within the space of three days, and the largest magnitude. The previous seismic activity recorded much lower magnitudes.
All this series of underwater earthquakes were located in the sea to the north and northwest of the Municipality of La Frontera.
